How to distinguish the effective lifting capacity, rated lifting capacity, total lifting capacity and maximum lifting capacity of overhead crane?

The overhead crane can make full use of the space under the bridge to lift materials, not hindered by the ground equipment, and its unique honeycomb beam design has the characteristics of light self weight, large load, strong wind resistance and so on. The difference between the effective lifting capacity, rated lifting capacity, total lifting capacity and maximum lifting capacity of overhead crane is as follows:

1、Effective lifting capacity: the net weight of goods or materials that can be lifted by Overhead Crane. For the crane with variable amplitude, the effective lifting capacity shall be specified according to the amplitude.

2、Rated lifting capacity: the total weight of the goods or materials allowed to be lifted by the overhead crane together with the weight of the spreader. For the crane with variable amplitude, the rated lifting capacity of the crane with variable amplitude.

3、Total lifting capacity: the total weight of the goods or materials that can be lifted by the overhead crane, together with the sling, hook, pulley block, wire rope, and other slings under the lifting trolley. For cranes with variable amplitude, the total lifting capacity shall be specified according to the amplitude.

4、Maximum lifting capacity: the maximum rated lifting capacity allowed to be lifted by the overhead crane under normal working conditions.

Rated lifting capacity refers to the maximum safe lifting capacity of overhead crane. For example, the rated lifting capacity of a 10 ton overhead crane is 10 tons (including the sum of lifting appliances and goods). This is a safety load set by the manufacturer. Only 10 tons or less are allowed to be lifted. More than 10 tons may lead to safety accidents, which will lead to the sinking and fracture of the main beam. Therefore, it is necessary to have a clear concept of rated lifting capacity, and overload operation is not allowed. The maximum lifting capacity is 1.25 times of the rated lifting capacity, i.e. the maximum lifting capacity of the double girder overhead crane with the rated lifting capacity of 10 tons is 12.5 tons. However, it should be noted that the maximum lifting capacity is under static load, not under operation. Once the load exceeds the maximum lifting capacity (12.5 tons), safety accidents will occur.

In order to avoid overload accident, the overhead crane manufacturer reminds us that overload limiter must be installed. Overload limiter is installed, when the lifting object is close to the rated lifting capacity, it will give an alarm to remind the operator. When the lifting object exceeds the rated lifting capacity, the power will be cut off automatically and the overhead crane will stop working. This will ensure the smooth operation of the machine and the safety of personnel.
